Hello, I am Bernard Breman and since 2015 kiwiberry grower for Hoogstraten. In 2010 we started with a fruit farm and at the same time we also started growing kiwiberries. Over the years, a number of side products have been added such as jam, dessert sauce and kiwiberry juice. We chose the kiwiberry because we wanted to grow something special; a unique type of fruit that is not widely available. We first came into contact with the kiwiberry via Google and then went on to study this product in more depth, for example by having many conversations with Filip Debersaques of Hogeschool Gent. This only fueled our enthusiasm. During the season, the work is very varied, ranging from cutting back young shoots, combating weeds, tying in new shoots, fertilising, sprinkling, mowing the grass strips between the rows to harvesting, of course. And in the winter period, the plants need to be pruned. I like working with Coöperatie Hoogstraten for the marketing of the kiwiberries because they invest in the product. Last year, for example, they purchased a sorting machine, so that together we can deliver a good product to the shops and wholesalers. In my spare time, I also spend a lot of time outdoors. I like to go fishing and hunting with my hunting dog. In addition, I often go to matches of my favourite football club SC Heerenveen to cheer them on.
