Hello, I'm Bernard Breman, and I've been a kiwiberry grower for Hoogstraten since 2015. We started a fruit-growing business in 2010 and simultaneously began growing kiwiberries. Over the years, we've added several related products, such as jam, dessert sauce, and kiwiberry juice. We chose the kiwiberry because we wanted to grow something different; a unique type of fruit that isn't widely available. We first came into contact with the kiwiberry through Google and further immersed ourselves in this product by, for example, having many conversations with Filip Debersaques from Hogeschool Gent. This only fueled our enthusiasm. During the season, the work is very varied, ranging from shortening young shoots, weed control, tying new shoots, fertilizing, irrigating, mowing the grass strips between the rows, to harvesting, of course. And in the winter, the plants need to be pruned. I enjoy working with Coöperatie Hoogstraten for the sale of the kiwiberries because they invest in the product. For example, a sorting machine was purchased last year, allowing us to jointly deliver a good product to stores and wholesalers. In my free time, I also spend a lot of time outdoors in nature. I enjoy fishing and hunting with my hunting dog. Moreover, I often go to matches of my favorite football club, SC Heerenveen (Eredivisie), to cheer them on.
