Hello, my name is Martijn van Oers, and I have been working full-time on my parents' farm, Joost and Edith van Oers, since 2018. They started growing beef tomatoes in 1989. Because Edith grew up on a strawberry farm, her interest in strawberry cultivation always remained. In 1993, in addition to tomato cultivation, they also started growing strawberries in open ground. Soon after, the greenhouse was also converted for strawberry cultivation. We produce strawberries almost all year round. This is possible due to assimilation lighting in the winter, growing different varieties, and spreading our crops. All our products are grown on substrate and in greenhouses in the most sustainable way possible. We use CHP units to supply the company with its own electricity and heat. In addition, we use biological control agents as much as possible. To maintain the high quality of the strawberries, we take care of the propagation and cultivation of the plant material ourselves. The strawberry varieties we grow are Sonata, Elsanta, and Sonsation. We also carry out tests with 'new' varieties to stay informed of what is possible. With this way of working, we can serve our customers in the best possible way. Before I started working full-time for my parents, I completed a business administration degree at HAS University of Applied Sciences in Den Bosch.
