Hello, I am Toon Trouw, a strawberry grower for Hoogstraten. In 1965, my father had a mixed farm with cows, vegetables, raspberries and strawberries. As the interest in and for plants grew, the cows disappeared. After finishing the primary agricultural school, a lot of vegetables were grown. In those days, the cultivation plan consisted of gherkins, spinach, leeks, Brussels sprouts, carrots, strawberries and raspberries. Over the years, many crops have disappeared, so that now only strawberries and rhubarb are grown. The choice for strawberries is influenced by the suitability of the soil, and the love for the product. An average working day starts around 7 o'clock in the morning. First we start with harvesting, after which in the afternoon different tasks like planting, weeding, preparing the product for auction or harvesting rhubarb are done. For us, growing strawberries for Hoogstraten means growing a good quality product that exudes our passion. Enjoy!
