In 2003 we joined the company of my husband's parents. This company specialises in growing leeks, but also has a number of secondary crops, such as lettuce, potatoes, cauliflower and white cabbage. These crops are typical for our region. In that period I was teaching in primary school and after 5 years I had a chance to get a permanent job. At that moment, I was faced with a difficult choice: a full-time job in education or a full time job in the company of my husband and his parents. I chose the latter, but the company was basically fully built up and I still fancied a challenge. We therefore decided to create something of our own that we could later be proud of. Soon, we built the existing plastic greenhouse for strawberries and invested in a glass heated greenhouse. That way, we have strawberries almost all year round. Randy takes care of the crop and I'm responsible for the paperwork and HR. Growing strawberries is intensive, but at the same time, beautiful and challenging. You have to be on top of things and coordinate everything well, because the quality and the presentation of the strawberries is very important. Consumers have high expectations and we want to meet and even exceed these! It is becoming our life's work!
