About
Herman Van Osselaer
Originating from:
Belgium

We would like to introduce you to Herman Van Osselaer, a strawberry grower for Hoogstraten since 2010. Years ago, he started as a grower of open-field strawberries. Currently, strawberries are still the most important product on his farm, but he also grows kiwi berries. The kiwi berry is the perfect complement to strawberry cultivation. Herman initially grew strawberries in open fields, but due to soil fatigue and the accessibility of the land, he decided to plant kiwi berries there. Herman first came into contact with this unique product through the former Profruco auction and Hogeschool Gent. The combination with strawberry cultivation makes for a busy schedule, but the variety also keeps it interesting. During the winter months, the kiwi berry plants must be pruned, and in the spring, mowing takes place and young twigs are tied. In the summer, the plants are pruned again, after which harvesting can take place in August and September. Both the strawberries and the kiwi berries are traded under the Hoogstraten label. This is a quality brand that Herman is proud of as a grower. Quality fruits are grown and traded in this way through a recognized channel. For Herman, true relaxation means going for a bike ride with fellow growers.
