Hello, my name is Martijn van Oers, and I have been working full-time at my parents' company, Joost and Edith van Oers, since 2018. They started growing beef tomatoes in 1989. Because Edith grew up on a field-grown strawberry farm, her interest in this crop always remained. In 1993, in addition to tomato cultivation, they also started with field-grown strawberries. Soon after, the greenhouse was converted for strawberry cultivation. We produce strawberries almost all year round. This is made possible by assimilation lighting with different varieties and planting dates. All our products are grown on substrate and in greenhouses in the most sustainable way possible. We use CHP units to supply the company with its own electricity and heat. In addition, we use biological control agents as much as possible. To maintain the high quality of the strawberries, we take care of the propagation and cultivation of the plant material ourselves. The strawberry varieties we grow are Sonata, Elsanta, and Sonsation. We also conduct trials with 'new' varieties to stay informed of what is possible to serve the market as well as possible. Before I started working full-time for my parents, I completed a business administration degree at HAS University of Applied Sciences in Den Bosch.
